Norbert Szyperski is founder and CEO of InterScience Consulting GmbH, Westerland/Sylt, and also head of the business research group Innovative Technologies at the University of Cologne. From 1970 – 86 he was full professor and since then Adjunct Professor of this university (Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Social Sciences) as well as director of the BIFOA group.
From 1981 to 86 he headed the GMD Research Centre in Sankt Augustin which would later become the incubator of the BioSolveIT spin off. Thereafter he was head of the board of directors at Mannesmann Kienzle GmbH and initiated among other things the foundation of the Mannesmann Mobilfunk unit (D2). As founding member and President of the DFN organisation and initiator of the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) in Berkeley, California, USA, he got engaged into national and international research IT-infrastructures. In 2004 he obtained the Große Bundesverdienstkreuz for the merits of his work for Entrepreneurship Research and in the field of spin-offs from academia (EXIST).
